Ingredients
- Masoor dal (red dal)-1 cup
- Tomato - 2
- Onion - 1
- Green chilli - 2
- Jeera(Cumin) - 1 Tsp
- Ginger Garlic paste -1Tsp
- Hing -1/4 Tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
Chilli Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Garam Masala - 1/4 Tsp
Oil - 2 Tbsp
- Kasoori Methi (fenugreek leaves) - 1 Tsp
Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash masoor dal well and place in a pressure cooker.Add chopped tomatoes,salt and about 2 cups of water.
- Cook on high for about 2 to 3 whistles or until they turn soft and well cooked.
- Once it is cooked, mash the cooked dal and tomatoes with a ladle.
- Add turmeric powder and salt to taste, bring to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the oil/ghee for tadka preparation .
- Add jeera and fry till it starts to crackle and add chopped onions and green chilies, saute for about one minute.
- After that add ginger and garlic, Fry for a few seconds till the raw smell of ginger and garlic is reduced.
- Add hing,garam masala and red chili powder. garam masala powder, stir gently and pour this seasoning over the simmering dal.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves or crushed kasoori methi.
- Simple and easy dal is ready to serve.
