Rasam Recipe | Tamil Nadu style

Ingredients
  • 3 Tomatoes
  • 1 lemon sized ball of tamarind
  • 1 Tsp Pepper
  • 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
  • 6 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 3 Red chillies
  • Chopped Curry leaves
Preparation Method
  1. Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes. Kneading with your fingertips, extract juice and discard pulp. keep aside
  2. First blend 1 Tsp Pepper, Chopped curry leaves and then add 1 Tsp cumin seeds. Mix this for 2 minutes then finally add 6 garlic cloves and blend this mixture and keep it aside.
  3. In a thick bottomed vessel, mix the 3 (mashed) Tomatoes, Salt and 2 cups of water
  4. Heat the vessel, allow the contents to boil for 2 minutes. Add Tamarind juice and coriander leaves, cook for 2 more minutes and then add blended mixture (from step 2). Now switch off the flame.
  5. Heat oil in a small pan and splutter some mustard seeds. Now add the curry leaves and 3 Red chillies into the same pan and fry for a minute. Pour this seasoning over into the boiled mixture (step 4). Rasam is now ready.
