Rasam Recipe | Tamil Nadu style
Ingredients
- 3 Tomatoes
- 1 lemon sized ball of tamarind
- 1 Tsp Pepper
- 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
- 6 Garlic Cloves
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 3 Red chillies
- Chopped Curry leaves
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes. Kneading with your fingertips, extract juice and discard pulp. keep aside
- First blend 1 Tsp Pepper, Chopped curry leaves and then add 1 Tsp cumin seeds. Mix this for 2 minutes then finally add 6 garlic cloves and blend this mixture and keep it aside.
- In a thick bottomed vessel, mix the 3 (mashed) Tomatoes, Salt and 2 cups of water
- Heat the vessel, allow the contents to boil for 2 minutes. Add Tamarind juice and coriander leaves, cook for 2 more minutes and then add blended mixture (from step 2). Now switch off the flame.
- Heat oil in a small pan and splutter some mustard seeds. Now add the curry leaves and 3 Red chillies into the same pan and fry for a minute. Pour this seasoning over into the boiled mixture (step 4). Rasam is now ready.
