Fish Curry Recipe | Tamil Nadu style (with Coconut)
Ingredients
- 500gm Fish
- 20 Sambhar onion
- 3 Tomatoes
- 6 Green Chillies
- 4 Tbsp Oil
- 1 Tsp Mustard seed
- 2 Tsp Fenugreek
- 1 Tsp Cumin seed
- 1 Tsp Fennal seed
- 1 Cup Coconut
- 1/2 Tsp Chilli powder
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 Tsp Coriander powder
- 1 lemon sized ball of tamarind
- Chopped Curry leaves
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 30 minutes. Kneading with your fingertips, extract juice and discard pulp. keep aside.
- First blend 1 Cup Coconut, 1 Tsp Cumin seed, 1 Tsp Fennal seed, 5 Sambhar onions and blend this mixture and keep it aside.
- In a thick bottomed vessel, heat the oil and put 1 Tsp Mustard seeds. After a minute add 1 Tsp Fenugreek and Chopped Curry Leaves.
- After one more minute, add 15 finely chopped Onions. Fry the chopped onions until it gets a brownish shade and then add 3 finely chopped Tomatoes.
- Mash the mixture gently, mash (and cook) the tomatoes until it becomes mediumly mashed and then add salt to taste.
- Now, after a minute add 1/2 Tsp Chilli Powder, 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder, 2 Tsp Coriander Powder.
- Fry this masala for 2 sec then add Tamarind juice, Cook for 2 more minutes and then add blended mixture (from step 2).
- Then add 2 glasses of water then cover and let it cook.
- Once it starts boiling, add the cleaned fish.
- Cook for 20-30 mins and then switch off the flame.
- Serve with Bread or Dosa
