Aloo Matar

Ingredients

  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 2
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch
  • Garlic - 4
  • Oil - 2 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 Tsp
  • Cashew - 4
  • Potatoes - 3 (peeled and cubed)
  • Green peas - 1Cup
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Red Chilli powder - 1/2Tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4Tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2Tsp
  • Coriander leaves - few
  • Salt as needed

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan ,add  chopped onion saute for 5 mins
  2. Now add ginger and garlic,fry for 2 mins
  3. And then add tomatoes ,saute until tomatoes becomes soft and  finally add cashews for a min and turn off the flame.
  4. After that add red chilli powder ,turmeric powder and garam masala and mix well. Let it to be cool
  5. Grind or blend it to a smooth paste. keep aside
  6. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. first crackle the cumin seeds. then add the onion-tomato paste.
  7. Saute the ground paste till the oil releases from the sides.
  8. Add the Asafoetida powder,  Garam masala , salt stir and then add the peas and potatoes. saute for a minute. 
  9. Add 1 cup water and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles till the potatoes & peas are cooked completely.
  10. then add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.Stir well and serve aloo matar hot with pooris, chapatis or rice.
