Dal tadka

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup toor dal 
  • 1 big onion chopped
  • 1 big tomato chopped
  • 3-4 green chilies slit
  • 1/2 inch ginger peeled and crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt
  • water
  • 1. 5 tablespoon ghee OR oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • Some coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
  1. Rinse the toor dal well and add to a pressure cooker.
  2. Add finely chopped onions, tomatoes and slit green chilies. Also add grated ginger, turmeric powder and required salt.Add 2 cups water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
  3. Once the pressure is released mash the cooked dal very well. The dal should be very smooth creamy and mushy. If needed add some water to thin down the consistency.
  4. Heat ghee in a small pan.Add cumin seeds and let splutter.
  5. Add curry leaves, garlic cloves and dried red chilies. Saute for 2 minutes.
  6. Add to the cooked dal and mix well. Serve dal tadka hot.
