Dal tadka
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup toor dal
- 1 big onion chopped
- 1 big tomato chopped
- 3-4 green chilies slit
- 1/2 inch ginger peeled and crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt
- water
- 1. 5 tablespoon ghee OR oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 10 curry leaves
- 2-3 garlic cloves
- Some coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the toor dal well and add to a pressure cooker.
- Add finely chopped onions, tomatoes and slit green chilies. Also add grated ginger, turmeric powder and required salt.Add 2 cups water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
- Once the pressure is released mash the cooked dal very well. The dal should be very smooth creamy and mushy. If needed add some water to thin down the consistency.
- Heat ghee in a small pan.Add cumin seeds and let splutter.
- Add curry leaves, garlic cloves and dried red chilies. Saute for 2 minutes.
- Add to the cooked dal and mix well. Serve dal tadka hot.
