Ven Pongal Recipe

 Ingredients:

  • Ghee/Butter - 3 Tbsp
  • MoongDal - -1/2  Cup
  • Rice - -1/2 Cup
  • Salt - -1/2  Tsp
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
  • Black Pepper  -1/2 Tsp
  • Cashew - 10 
  • Ginger - 1Inch
  • Asafetida - A pinch

Instructions:

  1. In a pressure cooker heat 3 Tbsp  Ghee/Butter, add ½ cup rice, ½ cup moong dal and sauté  until it turns aromatic.
  2. And then add lightly crushed Pepper , minced Ginger ,Cashews, Cumin Seeds, a pinch of Asafetida  and salt .Sauté for a minute and then add 3 to 3 1/2 Cup of Water
  3. Close the cooker with a lid and do not put on the weight yet.
  4. After steam is visible ,put the weight onto the pressure cooker, then keep the flame low for 20 minutes, or  for 2 whistles, then switch off the flame.
  5. After the pressure releases, open the cooker and give a good mix.
  6. Serve Ven Pongal  with coconut chutney and sambar.
