How to Clean Banana Flower for Cooking
Ingredients
- Banana Flower - 1
- Oil - 2 Tbsp
- Curd - 1/4 Cup
Method
- Take 1/4 cup of curd and mix with 2 cups of water. Mix it well and make buttermilk with it. Keep it aside. We will be adding the chopped banana florets into this buttermilk to stop them changing color.
- Grease your hands with oil very well.Cleaning process makes your fingers black. So this will help to avoid blackening of hands and fingers
- Now take the banana flower and when u remove the pink outer layer ,u will see bunches of flowers. The individual small florets is what we will consume. But before consuming we need to remove 2 inedible portion from the floret.
- One is the stamen which is identified by a long filament with a small bulb at the top. The other one is a plastic like flap(thin white colored cover portion )which is right near the bottom of the floret.
- Take a big floret and remove the stamen and thin white colored cover portion . After removing the inedible portions, you are done with the floret.
- Repeat the same process with all florets and all layers of the banana flower. No need to remove the stamen part for very small ones. You can chop and use as it is.
- As you go towards the center, the florets will be smaller and white. You will not be able to remove the filament and flap from those florets. You can use those tender florets as it is.
- Chop up the cleaned florets and the center white portion into small pieces and immerse in the buttermilk, until you need to cook.
