Cooking tips for beginners for using pressure cooker

Tips
  1. Before every use, inspect your pressure cooker to make sure all working parts are in order and that the gasket ring isn't cracked. Do not use a pressure cooker that isn't in perfect condition.
  2. Do not fill the cooker more than half full to avoid the potential of clogging the vent during the cooking process. The normal fill line is two-thirds.
  3. You won't need as much liquid in pressure cooking because the steam and liquid do not escape from inside the vessel
  4. When cooking in a stove-top pressure cooker, start cooking over high heat. After you reach pressure, lower the burner to a simmer.
  5. Until you learn how your pressure cooker and stovetop interact, watch your pressure and make sure it doesn't rise too high. If it does, reduce your stovetop heat.
  6. Be sure the lid is properly closed and locked into position before developing pressure.
  7. When adding foods into an already cooking pot, or when your cook time is complete, follow the manual instructions to release the pressure. A natural release is accomplished by simply removing the pot from the heat.
  8. A quick release requires you to run cold water over the lid until the pressure is decreased. Some pressure cooker models have an automatic release feature.
