Cooking tips for beginners for using pressure cooker
Tips
- Before every use, inspect your pressure cooker to make sure all working parts are in order and that the gasket ring isn't cracked. Do not use a pressure cooker that isn't in perfect condition.
- Do not fill the cooker more than half full to avoid the potential of clogging the vent during the cooking process. The normal fill line is two-thirds.
- You won't need as much liquid in pressure cooking because the steam and liquid do not escape from inside the vessel
- When cooking in a stove-top pressure cooker, start cooking over high heat. After you reach pressure, lower the burner to a simmer.
- Until you learn how your pressure cooker and stovetop interact, watch your pressure and make sure it doesn't rise too high. If it does, reduce your stovetop heat.
- Be sure the lid is properly closed and locked into position before developing pressure.
- When adding foods into an already cooking pot, or when your cook time is complete, follow the manual instructions to release the pressure. A natural release is accomplished by simply removing the pot from the heat.
- A quick release requires you to run cold water over the lid until the pressure is decreased. Some pressure cooker models have an automatic release feature.
